Isabell Olsasky, a 2025 graduate of Southeast Warren High School, spent her summer in Mexico as a Borlaug Ruan International Intern with CIMMYT, gaining hands-on experience in global agricultural research. Immersed in CIMMYT’s Sustainable Agri Food Systems Program, she conducted a case study on the organization’s Hub Model, a collaborative, farmer centered approach that brings together diverse disciplines and local actors. Through interviews, field visits, and a SWOT analysis, she discovered how empowering farmers as co-creators of knowledge fosters more meaningful and scalable solutions. Beyond the research, Isabell embraced Mexico’s rich culture, forming lasting memories and gaining a deeper appreciation for agriculture’s role in addressing food insecurity around the world.
