Improving food security in West Asia and North Africa by identifying and promoting climate-resilient wheat varieties resistant to soil-borne pathogens (CLIMARES)

The primary objective of this project is to promote the use and conservation of adapted plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA), contributing to increased agricultural productivity, improved on-farm incomes, greater availability of diverse and nutrient-rich foods, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced resilience to production shocks.

Specific Objectives

  1. Adapted PGRFA are managed and improved through participatory approaches involving farmers.
  2. Local value chains are strengthened to support the production, availability, and consumption of adapted PGRFA.
  3. Mechanisms for the exchange of PGRFA materials, data, and knowledge are reinforced to promote wider access and collaboration.
