Dr. Neal Gutterson joined the CIMMYT Board of Trustees in September 2011. He is the chair of the Program Committee and a member of the Executive and Nomination committees.Dr. Gutterson has been involved in plant biotechnology for nearly 30 years as an inventor with a scientific background in molecular biology, biochemistry and genomics. He is Vice President of Agricultural Biotechnology at DuPont Pioneer. Previously, Gutterson was Chief Executive Officer of Mendel from 2007 to 2014, following roles at Mendel as Vice President for Research & Development, President and Chief Operating Officer.
Gutterson is section secretary of the food and agriculture governing board of the Biotechnology Industry Organization and a member of the GrassRoots Biotechnology board of directors. Previously, he spent 18 years at AGS and DNA Plant Technology developing microbial bio-control agents, managing diverse research programs and corporate relationships, improving produce crops for quality traits and providing technical leadership on intellectual property strategy. Gutterson holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley; a B.S. in chemistry from Yale University; and attended an executive education program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is a named inventor on more than three dozen patents and pending patent applications.
