2023 Borlaug Dialogue

October 24, 2023 - October 26, 2023

The Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue, also known as the “Borlaug Dialogue” and the “premier global agriculture conference,” addresses contemporary issues related to nutrition and food security. The dialogue brings together more than 2,000 people from over 60 countries. The conference lasts three days and assembles scientists, policymakers, business executives and farmers to strengthen partnership to tackle hunger and malnutrition.

The 2023 theme Harnessing Change takes on the significant repercussions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic on food and nutrition security. Conversations will focus on making use of innovations and diversification to build robust and shock-proof food systems.

MasAgro: Taking it to the Farmer

CIMMYT and CGIAR speaker: Bram Govaerts, CIMMYT director general and Lindiwe M. Sibanda, CGIAR system board chair

This panel discusses CIMMYT’s implementation of MasAgro, showcases farmer testimonials from Mexico and Africa, and highlights the support from CGIAR and the U.S. Special Representative for Global Food Security on the project’s expansion and impact.

Harnessing Innovation to Rapidly Respond to Crises

CIMMYT and USAID speakers: Bram Govaerts, CIMMYT director general; Kevin Kabunda, chief of party AID-I southern Africa; Dina Esposito, USAID Global Food Crisis coordinator and assistant to the Administrator, Bureau for Resilience, Environment and Food Security 

The panel will focus on the Accelerated Innovation Delivery Initiative (AID-I) Rapid Delivery Hubs announced by U.S. President Joe Biden at the 2022 United Nations General Assembly to mitigate the food security crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine in food importing countries of the Great Lakes and southern Africa regions.
