Lone Badstue is a rural development sociologist specializing in local people’s perspectives in relation to agricultural development and natural resources management. Badstue leads the research theme on gender and social inclusion at CIMMYT and in MAIZE and WHEAT. She is also the project leader of GENNOVATE, a CGIAR-wide research initiative on gender norms, agency and innovation in agriculture and natural resource management.
Her research interests include actor oriented approaches, gender and social heterogeneity in relation to agricultural innovation and development, including crop improvement and seed systems, local knowledge and technology diffusion, local livelihoods and farmer decision making.
Prior to re-joining CIMMYT in 2011, Badstue worked as a gender and advocacy specialist for Helen Keller International in Kenya and as principal socioeconomic and gender specialist with the African Water Facility, an initiative managed by the African Development Bank.
