Carolina Camacho Villa has a multidisciplinary background in agronomy, genetic resources conservation and utilization, as well as sociology of rural development. She has studied topics such as traditional farming systems, agrobiodiversity and technological changes on agriculture.
In her six years in CIMMYT, Camacho Villa worked on innovation processes and scaling within the context of MasAgro and other projects from the Sustainable Intensification Strategy in Latin America. In recent years, she has been coordinating efforts to promote processes of social inclusion within these projects, taking into account gender, age and cultural inclusion. In addition to this, she works in collaboration with the Maize Seedbank to promote projects on maize landrace “rematriation.” This concept introduces innovative approaches to supporting agrobiodiversity conservation and rural development in a complementary manner.
