Carlos Guzman

Wheat Chemistry and Quality Laboratory Head

Carlos Guzman is a senior scientist and head of CIMMYT’s wheat chemistry and quality laboratory, organizing the staff and activities carried out and setting priorities.

Guzman contributes to all aspects of bread and durum wheat quality breeding, including conducting studies to know more about the genetic control of quality traits like gluten and starch properties, hardness, semolina color. He also researches environmental influence, genotype-environment interactions and field management.

He regularly contributes to collaborative research at CIMMYT and other institutions and breeding programs, develops and implements new high-throughput methodologies useful to manage thousands of samples generated by the breeding program, and researches factors related to the nutritional quality of wheat and health.
