Olaf Erenstein is the Director of CIMMYT’ Socio-Economics Program. The program has a team of 30+ internationally recruited scientists located in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia. The team’s research-for-development (R4D) aims to help prioritize, target, understand and enhance wheat and maize interventions for greatest impact and social inclusiveness. Since joining CIMMYT in 2004, Erenstein has been posted and working regionally in South Asia (New Delhi, India) and Eastern and Southern Africa (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). Prior to joining CIMMYT, he has worked in Pakistan, Mexico and West Africa. His research has focused on R&D implications based on agricultural systems and innovation analysis in developing countries. Erenstein holds M.Sc.’s in Agricultural Economics and Agronomy and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, all from Wageningen University.
