Introduction The IWIS-Bib database is a supplement to the International Wheat Information System. Each record in IWIS-Bib identifies a publication, and each publication describes a cultivar.

Each record begins with a header which is made up of three components:

• The crop or species:

HoVU = barley
SeCE = rye
TrAE = bread wheat
TrDI = emmer
TrDR = durum (and Polish) wheat
xTSE = triticale

• The ISO two-letter code for the country to which the publication applies, typically the country in which the cultivar was released or registered

• The name of the cultivar

The components can be searched independently or in combination. For example, enter xTSE in the crop/country field to find all publications describing triticale cultivars; enter xTSE AU for those from Australia; enter Coorong in the cultivar field for this cultivar only.

Other fields may be searched to identify publications by cultivar source, author, title, series, year etc. Cross and selection identifiers (CID, SID) are displayed and will eventually permit links to cultivar-specific data in the main IWIS.

There may be more than one record for the same cultivar if there is more than one publication describing it. As far as possible, each cultivar is represented by the original publication describing its release or registration, even if that publication is now very old. Additional publications are also entered if they provide particular information on morphological, quality or other characteristics.

The database now contains >8000 records but some countries are better represented than others (see list of country codes). The compiler would welcome the cooperation of colleagues in improving coverage for all countries.
