Stephen N. Mugo is a Kenya national and the CIMMYT Africa Regional Representative (CRR) and CIMMYT-Kenya Country Representative (CCR). He manages the CIMMYT Kenya Office ICRAF Campus, Nairobi, Kenya, and provides administrative and liaison oversight of the CIMMYT offices in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Harare, Zimbabwe. Stephen is a Principal Scientist and Maize Breeder in CIMMYT’s Global Maize Program. He has lead several bilateral and multilateral maize improvement projects since joining CIMMYT in 1998. He is the current CIMMYT Project Leader (since 2008) of the Water Efficient Maize For Africa (WEMA) project to improve maize for drought tolerance and insect pest resistance in five countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. He led the Insect Resistant Maize for Africa (IRMA) project (1999-2004), as well as the Strengthening Seed Systems project in Kenya and Uganda (2001-2003). Stephen holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, 1983; a Masters of Science in Agronomy from the University of Missouri, USA,1990, a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Cornell University, USA 1999.
