| Dear Cooperator:
Regular IWIN cooperators and recipients
of past CIMMYT international wheat nurseries will find the
2005 bread wheat nurseries somewhat different from those that
were distributed in the past. Striving to better cater to
cooperators' requests, select IWIN bread wheat nurseries will
be defined by the predominant grain color (white or red grain)
of germplasm contained within a nursery.

3 I suggest starting a new series
number. Either the series number, or the nursery abbreviation,
or the total entry number (or the unique plot number) for
a given year can be used as defining criteria for a given
nursery.
Note:
The 2005 IWIN CIMMYT durum wheat, triticale and ICARDA/CIMMYT
barley nursery designations will remain unchanged from those
used in previous years.
Also
relatively new for IWIN cooperators are two CIMMYT Internet
websites from which current nursery field books (in Excel
format) and past years' returned phenotypic data may be obtained:
IWIN
Field Books
http://www.cimmyt.org/iwin/index.htm
This site enables recipients of IWIN international nurseries
to download, in Excel format, the unique, recipient-specific
nursery field books contained in each nursery box. These unique
workbook files contain all data contained in the printed field
books including plot or entry number, germplasm name or cross
and selection history, etc. A "General Notes" page
is also included in each workbook should cooperators wish
to return trial and phenotypic performance data to IWIN using
these spreadsheet files.
International
Nursery Phenotypic Data, 1998 - Present
http://www.cimmyt.org/wpgd/index.htm
This site provides access to all phenotypic data collected
by IWIN cooperators, for all nurseries distributed by CIMMYT
IWIN, from 1998 to the present. Barley data is provided through
the cooperation of the ICARDA/CIMMYT Barley Improvement Program.
Other enhancements from IWIN include:
- IWIN nursery and germplasm request
forms are available on International Wheat Nurseries.
- Beginning with the 2004 nursery distribution
cycle, field plot labels (complete sets for Yield Trials,
and staggered series for Screening and Observation Nurseries)
are included with each boxed nursery.
Please be reminded that, as in the recent
past, all Yield Trials dispatched by IWIN have uniquely randomized
second replications. Hence, it is crucial that boxed nursery
sets of seed and the accompanying field books are not interchanged.
Please assure that the occurrence (set) number on the field
book matches the occurrence (set) number on the seed envelopes.
The entry order of the first replication of all Yield Trials
is standard across occurrences (or sets).
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank you for your interest in, and collaboration with the
CIMMYT International Wheat Improvement Network. I wish you
success in your research projects, and your cultivar improvement
and technology dissemination programs. Please call upon me,
or the IWIN management team, if we may be able to assist you,
in any way.
Sincerely,
Dr. Monica Mezzalama
Head, Seed Inspection and Distribution Unit
