  CIMMYT Maize Inbred Lines (CML)

CIMMYT has periodically announced CIMMYT Maize Lines (CMLs). CMLs are carefully selected inbred lines with good general combining ability and a significant number of value-adding traits such as drought tolerance, N use efficiency, acid soil tolerance, resistance to diseases, insects and parasitic weeds. In many instances, they are parental lines of hybrids which have proven successful in one or several maize mega-environments.

Since 1991, 521 CMLs have been announced and made available to assist partners in the development of hybrids, vigorous and productive inbred progenitors, and high performance synthetics, particularly targeted at developing countries.

Historically, CIMMYT’s most successful CMLs are: CML144, CML159, CML161, CML163, CML176, CML197, CML202, CML206, CML216, CML247, CML251, CML254, CML264, CML287, CML311, CML312, CML376, CML387, CML395, and CML444

The most promising CMLs for the future include: CML421, CML448, CML451, CML456, CML465, CML470, CML488, CML491, CML496, CML504, CML505, CML509, and CML511
