Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles from
CIMMYT and its Collaborators:
A database starting 2003
For a list of journal articles 1966-2002, please go to http://www.cimmyt.org/english/docs/journal/articles.htm
The scope of this database is limited: it
covers only journal articles - not conference papers, not
book chapters, not newsletters, not CIMMYT imprints. To avoid
inconsistencies, we have adopted tight rules of admissibility:
- Only articles resulting from CIMMYT's
research program
- Only articles that were subject to independent
peer review
Typically, there is an author who is a
member of CIMMYT's staff. Often, however, the Center's involvement
is represented by a visiting scientist or graduate student
who reports work carried out while on assignment at CIMMYT.
In a few cases, the whole work has been done by other scientists
in other institutions but, if it was partly or wholly financed
by CIMMYT, or if it was identified as part of a collaborative
project with CIMMYT, then the resulting article is included
as a product of the Center's overall program.
Excluded are those articles that were written
after the authors joined CIMMYT's staff but to report work
carried out in their previous employments (not, therefore,
part of CIMMYT's program): the exclusion remains even when
'CIMMYT' is given as the author's affiliation. To balance
this, we have tried to find and include those articles describing
CIMMYT work that were written after the authors had moved
elsewhere, and even when these authors were named with their
new affiliations.
Some difficulty arises in the case of conference papers published
as articles in journals. Were they or were they not subject
to independent peer review? We include them if there is explicit
evidence to this effect, such as separate dates for ‘received’
and ‘accepted’. Otherwise we contact the journal’s
editor (or guest editor) for an assurance.
To conserve space in the identification
of cooperating institutions, the names of countries are reduced
to codes recommended by the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO). Those actually employed are:
AM Armenia
AT Austria
AU Australia

Each record begins with a header in
the form 2003 BELLON, the year of publication and the principal
surname of the first author. Searches can be made in the header
field entering either a year or a name or both. Truncation
involves the asterisk, so 2* in this field will give all articles
from the current millennium
(starting 2003).
Search terms entered in different
fields are interpreted as being linked by the Boolean AND.
Within fields &, / and ! give AND, OR and NOT.
The system also provides a ‘Browse’
feature. A click on the adjacent ‘Word Wheel’
presents an alphabetical list of the terms that have been
used in that field.
