Maize Breeding Software Training and Support

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), is seeking a dynamic, innovative and self-motivated consultant to support the training and use of Maize Breeding data management and analysis software. CIMMYT and its partners are engaged in Conventional and Molecular Breeding programs worldwide. Essential to this work are user-friendly software tools that aid plant breeders managing phenotypic and genotypic data. The MaizeFieldBook and ICIS software are used by breeders to manage, query and integrate pedigree, phenotyping and genotyping data. Vital to the use of the software and databases are user training and documentation. The position is based at the Center’s headquarters near Texcoco, Mexico; about 45 minutes drive from Mexico City’s airport. The initial appointment is for six months after which the contract may be renewed on a yearly basis.

Deliverables

  • Provide training for MaizeFieldBook and ICIS software through formal courses and one to one interaction with Maize breeders
  • Improve online and offline documentation on MaizeFieldBook and ICIS software which are used by breeders
  • Support software developers in the development of user manuals for MaizeFieldBook and ICIS software
  • Develop and improve content for the International Maize Information System (IMIS) portal (http://imis.cimmyt.org)

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications

  • University degree (or equivalent experience) in computer science, biological sciences or related field
  • At least two years full time experience in training, particularly in software and/or databases
  • Experience in collaborative tools, such as wiki and SourceForge
  • Some experience in software development would be desirable
  • Knowledge of the MaizeFieldBook and ICIS software would be advantageous
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of French would be advantageous
