A first National Wheat Breeding Workshop and Training on Wheat Breeding for Different Agro-Ecological Zones was held at Dezful in South- Western Iran from 11 to 21 April 2007. The event was organized under the ICARDA-CIMMYT Wheat Improvement Program (ICWIP) with the Iranian National Wheat Program. A. Lectures were given by senior scientists from SPII, DARI, ICARDA and CIMMYT and covered statistics, physiology, wheat breeding methodologies for high yield potential and drought resistance. One day was dedicated to breeding for disease resistance and scoring methods. CIMMYT’s Etienne Duveiller participated in the workshop with colleagues from ICARDA and visited SPII headquarters in Karaj to discuss research needs particularly in the area of resistance to Septorias and Fusarium Head Blights.
